Find Wetzel County Court Dates

Wetzel County court calendar questions begin with one step: figure out which court actually holds your case. There is no single county calendar covering everything. Circuit, magistrate, family, and municipal matters each sit with a different office. Online records can reveal an event or a filed notice, but the clerk keeps the working schedule that governs. When you run a Wetzel County court calendar check, read the newest entry first, then confirm anything uncertain with the court itself. That habit separates a real upcoming hearing from an old notice, a closed event, or a date that has already moved.

Find a Wetzel Court Date

Wetzel County publishes no standalone daily docket or countywide calendar PDF. You can still find a date through the case file. Circuit settings often surface in the West Virginia Public Access Search System, known as WVPASS. Look inside the electronic docket or a filed notice or order. Magistrate settings appear in the West Virginia Magistrate Case Record Search, called MCRSearch. Check under CASE EVENT SCHEDULE. The clerk and the judge's office still control the true schedule. Any changed date deserves a direct call to confirm.

  1. Identify Circuit, Magistrate, Family, Municipal, or federal court.
  2. Search the exact case number in WVPASS or MCRSearch.
  3. Open the newest event, hearing notice, or signed order.
  4. Check later entries for a continuance, waiver, transfer, or cancellation.
  5. Call the correct clerk if entries conflict or the room is undetermined.

Coverage has limits. WVPASS holds public circuit civil and criminal records from July 1, 1999 forward. MCRSearch is free and needs no registration, though it shows no document images. Neither portal promises every live setting is listed.

Wetzel Calendar Routes Compared

Think in split routes. Circuit felony and general civil dates start with WVPASS and the Circuit Clerk. Magistrate traffic, misdemeanor, preliminary-examination, and small-civil dates start with MCRSearch and the Magistrate Clerk. Family settings belong to Family Court staff. A city-ordinance matter stays with the municipality when its own court handles the charge. Federal cases live outside both state portals.

Wetzel County Calendar Types

Calendar labels mean different things. A preliminary hearing tests probable cause on a felony complaint. An initial appearance covers rights, counsel, the charge, and often bond. A notice of hearing is just a filed notice. An event row, by contrast, carries the operational details. A trial setting is not a docket call. A docket call brings several matters before the court together.

  • Preliminary hearing: may be held, waived, continued, or closed before transfer.
  • Initial appearance: first magistrate appearance with rights and charge information.
  • Notice of hearing: docket notice pointing to a proceeding.
  • Case event: MCRSearch schedule row with time and place.
  • Trial or motion hearing: purpose stated in the latest notice or order.

Watch for misleading status labels. "Hearing/Event Closed" marks one event row only; it does not prove the whole case is closed. "Transfer to Circuit Ct" means you must then find the circuit schedule separately.

MCRSearch Event Schedule Fields

MCRSearch does not offer a date-grid view of the docket. Complete the verification step, then search by first name, last name, or case number. The case detail page may display CASE EVENT SCHEDULE, since the event is reached through the case, and a Wetzel result there shows these fields.

Read a Wetzel Court Setting

Begin with the newest signed notice or order. A docket can keep an old event long after a continuance, so compare the event type and date against later rows. Look for a waiver, transfer, dismissal, amended notice, or closure. For circuit cases, inspect WVPASS and any public notice. For magistrate cases, put DOCKET ENTRY next to CASE EVENT SCHEDULE.

DateThe assigned day; confirm if a newer notice exists.
TimeThe listed call time, not an end-time estimate.
CourtroomRoom or floor; an open field needs confirmation.
JudgeOfficer on the event or signed order.
Setting TypeInitial appearance, hearing, motion, or trial.

Arrive early enough for courthouse screening. There is a metal detector and bag check, and firearms are barred. Before traveling, ask the clerk about access needs and current room rules.

Call the right office. Circuit dates: 304-455-8234, with felony questions also at 304-455-8219. Family settings: 304-455-0903. Magistrate dates: 304-455-5171. Have the case number, party name, event type, and any online date in hand, and ask staff to confirm the next setting and its location rather than to read the whole file.

Wetzel Resets and Continuances

A continuance moves a proceeding. A reset may show up as a new event, notice, or order. A waived preliminary hearing can close that event and lead to a circuit transfer. Read entries in date order. Even so, the newest signed filing and event deserve the most weight.

If counsel represents you, call counsel first. Otherwise, phone the clerk. Ask whether the event was continued, cancelled, waived, transferred, or reset. Also ask whether a new notice exists. Staff can confirm procedure and schedule but cannot give legal advice.

Emergency closure: Check the court closures page, then ask the clerk for the replacement date.

Wetzel Court Buildings and Time

Know your building before you go. Circuit Court sits at 200 Main Street. Magistrate Court is at 257 Main Street on the third floor, with Family Court one floor below on the second. These offices sit close together, but they are not one counter, and landing at the wrong building costs real time. The judiciary's courthouse article explains the annex.

The two-building layout makes the court named on your notice matter. Hours differ too. The courthouse lists weekday hours to 4:30 p.m. The Circuit Clerk lists Thursday to 6:00 p.m. Call before relying on evening access. Remember that counter hours say nothing about hearing times.

After a Missed Wetzel Setting

Act fast after a missed setting. Check case detail for a later entry, then contact counsel and the correct clerk. Give the case number and the missed date. Ask about status and the proper next step, and never pick a new date or appear at another court without direction.

Missed a Setting? A missed date can lead to a failure-to-appear action, warrant, or bond issue when the law permits.

Contact a lawyer and the relevant Wetzel clerk at once.

Legal advice should come from a licensed attorney.

A portal may show a later event. It cannot tell you what to file. Only the court can change an order or grant relief.

Wetzel Calendar Changes Online

Wetzel County's docket trail shifted fast from 2023 to 2025. CourtPLUS E-File arrived for circuit and family work on March 13, 2023. Statewide rollout came in July 2024. Magistrate case information went public through MCRSearch in January 2024. WVPASS opened circuit access in March 2025. So an old paper notice, a clerk file, and a newer electronic entry can tell you different things. They may disagree about the same Wetzel court docket.

CourtPLUS itself is not a public calendar. It handles filing and service for attorneys, government users, and authorized staff. For public case lookup, WVPASS covers circuit cases and MCRSearch covers magistrate events. The official implementation table confirms Wetzel's E-File date, though it posts no daily settings.

Know the portals' limits before you lean on them. WVPASS sends no alerts when a case changes and can go down for maintenance. Its session also expires after 60 minutes of inactivity. MCRSearch caps a query at 30 results and shows no document images. A case number is therefore the strongest search key. When a hearing is close, confirm with the right Wetzel clerk. Keep the newest filed notice. A portal outage never cancels a setting.
